November 5, 2009

Hello, Patriot families!  This is Mrs. Lassiter with the weekly updates from Heritage Middle School.

We got some really big news at HMS this week.  Our lead counselor, Jean Carter, was named NC Middle School Counselor of the Year.  She is very deserving of this honor.  I know she has been of service to many of you and you will want to congratulate her on this honor.

Also, our school was recognized at a state conference on Monday.  HMS earned exemplar status for our Positive Behavior Support program.  In the near future, we will hang the banner to share the recognition with our school community.  Thanks to students and staff.  This is a recognition we all share and to which we are all contributors.

Mark your calendars for the next HMS family night.  Thursday, Nov. 12th, join other Patriot families from 5-8 pm at Chick-fil-a in Wake Forest.  It is an easy way to take care of dinner and help the school at the same time!

Do not forget that the magnet schools fair is Saturday, Nov. 7th at SRMHS.  It will be from 10-1.  Most especially, if you are planning to apply for a magnet high school, you will want to get more information about the schools and the application requirements.  More information about high school open houses can be found on our school website.  Please access the student services page.

Thanks to everyone for the Box Tops.  Keep them rolling.  We have a preliminary count and Mrs. Boriotti’s class is in the lead.  So far, we have already collected $450 worth of Box Tops!  In tough economic times, these Box Tops will help our school.  Remember to tell your friends and family to help you collect!!!

Some of you might be interested to learn when there are new updates to the PTA website.  If you go to the site and join, it will send automated emails with updates.  Please take time to sign up.

Do not forget that we will be closed on Wednesday, Nov. 11th, in honor of Veterans’ Day.  Although we will be away, Patriots are still recognizing those who have served us.  As she did last year, Mrs. Glaberman has created the Veterans’ Day Wall of Honor.  It recognizes family members of staff and students who have served in the armed forces.  Please take time to remember those who have served and continue to serve our country.

If I do not say it enough, thank you for all that you do as families to make HMS a great place to learn and work.  Have a great weekend, everyone!
